It's getting better all the time!
After years of putting it off, I finally did it. I broke down, went to the orthodontist, and got braces! I got them put on Tuesday afternoon, so I'm still in a little bit of pain. Previous brace-wearers have assured me that by the end of the week I should be relatively pain free and use to the fact that my mouth feels like it weighs a ton. Right now, I only have the top braces on. I go back in 5 weeks to get the bottom ones on. Along with the braces, I have to have 4 teeth pulled and have my wisdom teeth cut out. I have to go ahead and get my 4 pre-molars removed as soon as possible in order to have room for my other teeth to move. Thankfully, my wisdom teeth don't have to be cut out right now, so I'm going to wait until this summer.
Speaking of this summer, I'm going to be spending 2 weeks in England! My mom's mom, my Nanna, was born in England. She met my grandfather during WWII, while he was stationed in England. They fell in love, got married, and a few years after the war moved back to America. As long as I can remember, I've wanted to go to England and sightsee and visit family. So finally mom and I finally got out act together and decided we are going this year! We are going to be staying with cousins that live in Walshal, England which is about 2 hours away from London. We already purchased our airline tickets and sent our information off to receive our passports. I'm beyond excited!!
More great news: I got my very first post college graduation pay check!! I took the job here at Riverside not knowing my exact salary. The Superintendent gave me an estimated amount, and I needed the job so I jumped on it without hearing any final amounts. Well it seems that I may possibly be getting just a tad bit more than expected, so things are really good! What's great is that my salary now is only half of what I'll be getting once I'm in a teaching position. Living with parents can really have it's advantages!!
Our church was put on a 3 day fast for our Pastor and his wife. Everyone that could was urged to participate in whatever manner they could, be it a full 3 days or just a partial fast. Well, I've done a 3 day fast before, so I figured I could handle it. I was doing well, but the first day of the fast was also the day I got my braces. Too much antibiotics for my sinus infection, advil and other pain medication on an empty stomach is not great. So I was feeling rather rotten -- head ache from not eating, head ache from my sinus problem, and a severe mouth ache. Needless to say, I had to break the fast a little. I still feel like I've done really well. The only thing I had the first night was some yogurt at about 10:00 pm. Then last night I had a bowl of chicken noodle soup about 5:00 pm and a chocolate milk shake after church. I do feel a little guilty for giving in, but I think God understands. A little sacrifice is better than no sacrifice, right?
We have been having really great church services lately. A lot of changes have taken place in our church with key members moving and sickness of our pastor. With everything going on, it seemed like people got really disconnected and weary. However, with this new year and some awesome sermons by our Asst. Pastor things have turned around. Youth prayer has been reinstated, so I'm looking forward to that tonight.
I'm going to Little Rock, AR to visit a friend this weekend for his birthday. His college and career group is having a huge scavenger hunt, so it sounds like a great time! I just hope my mouth can endure some birthday cake, but things are getting better all the time...
