Something I Know Little About
Romance. I can say that I've dabbled in it a little, but never had the pleasure or misfortune (depending on your view point) to dive head first into it. However, through use of Movies and TV, I got a few glimpses into what I'd certainly like to have.
Exhibit A: I just purchased and watched the newest version of "Pride and Prejudice." The story was not new to me, but I did need reminding that Mr. Darcy is one of the greatest, fictitious men ever created. I made the statement to my father, who had the privilege of walking in on the end of the movie, that I would marry a man if he was like Mr. Darcy.
What is it about Mr. Darcy?? He pushes Elizabeth; he challenges her. They both make each other see their faults and realize their dreams. Together they are greater than they ever could be apart. He makes her push past all her preconceived notions. He forces her, though without physical force, to trust him. He does things to win her affection, knowing he may actually never gain it.
Exhibit B: Tonight's episode of Gilmore Girls. I've stated my previous love for Rory and Logan. It was during this episode that I told my mother that I would marry a man if he was like Logan. (deja vu??) I'm very irate at the show because as of right now, Rory and Logan are broken up again. They just got back together 2-3 episodes ago. I live vicariously through this show. Those two breaking up is like me breaking up with my imaginary significant other. I need a life.
So what's it about Logan? Again, he pushes Rory to go beyond her boundaries. She's opened up and blossomed as a result of Logan. He makes her have fun and not take life so seriously. He makes her laugh. Rory is his first real girlfriend; she makes him settle down and quit the playa lifestyle. The icing on the cake tonight: Logan walks out of the house on his way somewhere. A few seconds later he comes back in the door, and Rory asks what he forgot. Logan walks right up to her and kisses her, tells her how beautiful she is, and how well she is going to do at some event she is going to. He came back just to kiss her goodbye and encourage her. And he calls her Ace...Which is just so durn sweet.
Exhibit C: Tyler Perry's Madea's Family Reunion. (Hang on, I'm making a connection.) Boris Kodjoe is so irresistible in this movie. Thinking about him now makes me want to say....I'll marry a guy if he's as great as Boris Kodjoe in this movie! (I'm really setting myself up for a let down, huh?) Anywaz, there were some really great lines in that movie that just made me feel all mushy.
What was it about this movie? Kodjoe says this line in the movie: "I love you beyond my strength, past my heart. I love you with my soul, and in my soul, only you and God reside." **WOW** Another good part was the wisdom from an elderly aunt. She was speaking of her late husband and her great love for him. She said that she would lay her head against his chest just to hear his heartbeat. Then she would discover that it was beating insync with hers. She then said that she wasn't just blessed, but divinely favored, to spend time with the man God designed just for her.
As much as I bash love and guys at time, I want to feel that way about someone...but more importantly...I want them to feel that way about me.
